Gildardo López simply has style, steeze, if you will—and it shows in his coffee. On our recent trip to Colombia, we had the pleasure of meeting Gildardo. We watched him accept the second place award in Copa de Oro, Osito’s multi-regional competition for coffee producers in Huila.
Both Gildardo’s Copa de Oro winning lot and the lot we are featuring on our menu now are 100% Pink Bourbon varieties. The Pink Bourbon variety was the most widely submitted in the competition. It is known for having intense jammy, citrusy, and tropical notes, as well as a vividly silky mouthfeel. Interestingly, Pink Bourbon is not actually in the Bourbon family and is instead genetically traced back to Ethiopian landrace varieties.
We are so excited to share this coffee with you, one that is distinct as it is delicious. In the cup, you’ll find zippy citrus reminiscent of pink lemonade, beautiful tropical flavors like guava and the creamy quality of orange sherbet on the finish.
Copa de Oro is a competition for skilled coffee producers in Southern, Western and Central Huila. Since the competition’s inception in 2022, Gildardo has consistently placed in the top finalists for all of Huila. We featured his second place winning lot on our menu two seasons ago and we are truly thrilled to continue our purchasing relationship with him.
