In December 2022 our importing partners, Osito, hosted Copa de Oro, a multi-regional competition featuring coffees and producers from Western, Southern and Central Huila. Green coffee buyers and judges from six different countries were invited to judge the competition with the Osito Colombian team and rank coffees through three rounds of coffees. Our then green coffee buyer, Daniel, was a part of the international panel and was fortunate enough to be able to snag a limited quantity of the winning coffee from the Copa De Oro champion, Diego Hoyos.
Fast forward two years and we are still committed to purchasing coffee from Diego Hoyos. His late 2024 harvest Pink Bourbon is another beautiful representation of the cherished variety. Expect high sweetness and clarity in the cup with notes of delicate fruit and florals.
We are committed to the producers in the South of Huila, San Agustín. Our menu staple, La Muralla, comes from producers in San Agustín, as does the 2024 Copa de Oro winning lot from Franci Leonor Marín. As a testament to how delicious the Pink Bourbon variety is, 9 lots out of the top 15 from 2024 Copa de Oro were 100% Pink Bourbon variety. It is also worth noting that Pink Bourbon was once thought to be part of the Bourbon family. Thanks to genetic research, as recently as 2017, it was identified to be likely and Ethiopian landrace variety.
