We met Segundo and his family on a sourcing trip to Colombia a couple years ago and were impressed by his efforts to improve coffee quality on his relatively young farm - both in terms of his ambition and the care he's putting into those plans. There's a lot to live up to as a grower in one of Colombia's most storied coffee regions, but Segundo happens to be part of a group of ambitious young farmers, informally called 'La Muralla', who support one another in pursuing quality-minded practices and are producing some consistently tasty lots.

We're thrilled to buy Segundo's coffee again this year because it gives us a chance to get great coffee from a lovely person and to practice our commitments to building relationships and purchasing with long-term sustainability in mind. Regarding Segundo, that looks like:

  1. Buying as much of his 84+ coffee as he can give us;
  2. Committing to him first next year; and
  3. Releasing an eponymous single origin offering.

A variety blend lot from Segundo’s farm will supply the base of Arboretum later this summer. Meanwhile, we’ll enjoy the hard work he and his team put into this delicious variety selection. Yellow Bourbon has high levels of fructose, making for an especially sweet & juicy cup.  We’re tasting the rich, concentrated sweetness of cooked fruits often found in single-producer Colombian lots. We also get a hint of cocoa, a good dose of toasted nut, and a lovely florality that borders on some tropical notes.

We really lucked out when Osito introduced us to Segundo Galindez.
