Grupo La Flora is made of 8 producing families who live near the vereda El Recreo, in El Pital, Huila. All of their farms sit between high along the Cordillera Central. Average farm size in Huila is under 3 hectares, so many farmers don’t hire outside help during harvest. This has the potential for increased quality control, but it can also be isolating. Self-organized coops like Grupo La Flora (and our recent offering from Grupo La Plata) provide support as growers improve farm practices and plant new varieties. Fun fact: Eduar Moriones is the group’s leader and brother-in-law to Osito Director of Colombia, Jose Jadir Losada.

Washed coffees from Huila are known for complex fruits, delicate florals, caramel sweetness, bright acidity, and round bodies. This honey processed lot shows an amped up version of the regional profile’s florality and brightness. It reminds us of everything red and pink - hibiscus tea, strawberry bon bons, raspberry-lemonade, pomegranate. La Flora Honey brings honeyed sweetness, a hint of cinnamon, and the refreshing note of a dry rosé. As the juiciness and acidity wane, we discover a light chocolate, like the wafer cookies inside a Kit Kat.

Honestly, we can’t wait to try this iced!
