Alotenanango is a Náhuatl word that means "the land of corn". Corn plants can
be found throughout the coffee growing area. It is also surrounded by volcanoes, including Agua, Acatenango and Fuego,—just three of the thirty-seven total volcanoes found in Guatemala. The volcanic soil creates exceptional conditions and properties for producing high-quality coffee. The majority of the production comes from small producers, whose land is typically intercropped with other staples (mostly corn) such as beans, oranges, limes, sweet potatoes, native pumpkin, and native peaches.
Alotenango is sweet and easy drinking. The star of the show is absolutely the comforting nuttiness of this coffee, complemented by complex maple syrup and rich milk chocolate. We find subtle notes of crisp apple and stone fruit too. As summer cools down and we approach Fall, we welcome the tempered flavor profile of Alotenango.
