The Jabril brothers (Feku, Abdi, and Kadir) are largely responsible for bringing coffees from the Uraga area of Guji to the attention of the specialty coffee community. Each brother runs his own washing station in a different area of the woreda. Kadir's station is in Wate Gogugu, in the far northwest.
This coffee was grown by so-called garden farmers - harvested from trees in the few hectares surrounding their homes. Most of these trees have only been producing cherry for 3-8 years. But this region isn't so much up-and-coming as it is fully arrived and looking at a bright future.
Staggering elevations and careful processing produce a complex cup with rich coconutty sweetness, honeysuckle aromatics, and a pop of citrus and tropical juice. It's clean and sweet and happy - exactly what we want in our first fresh crop Ethiopian coffee of 2021.
